Contribution to travel costs Draft Policy Paper No: 6 |
Contribution to travel costs
A contribution to travel costs for matches played outside of the county will be made for all sections or for representative matches. This will be based on a figure decided by the Executive Council for the number of miles to and from Oxford & City Bowls Club to the venue and will be made to the driver of players and up to 2 travelling reserves.
The rate agreed will be £0.075 per mile per person travelling from 1 April, 2025. Drivers will be paid this rate per person, travelling within their vehicle and may be rounded up or down for convenience of paying drivers in cash on the match day. For example for a driver making a 100 mile round trip with 3 others in the car, a payment of £0.075 x 100 x 4 = £30.00.
Players requested to represent Oxfordshire at Regional or national events will also receive this rate.
The rate agreed by the Executive Council is based on a contribution for the overall travelling costs which is affordable within the money raised from match fees and consideration will be given to the acceptance of players to the overall match fee which will be a constant figure throughout the season. Match fees generally will be used for paying rink fees that are charged and the cost of any refreshments provided. The match fees may be reduced accordingly should an event or section decide that refreshments are not required. Finance officers or the Match Secretary will make travel contributions to drivers on the day of the match.
Should it be necessary or required by a particular section to use alternative travel to players’ private cars, for example a taxi, mini-bus, coach or train to get to a venue, then the standard rate of contributing to travelling costs will be made with the remainder being paid by those using the particular mode of transport. This will apply at all levels of the sport.
Travel costs may also be claimed by officials required to attend meetings outside of the county at Regional or National level if representing the county. Under normal circumstances this will not exceed two persons and wherever possible representatives should travel together.
Players representing Oxfordshire at National Championships at Leamington Spa, will receive contributions for travel costs from Bowls England, received via the county and these may vary from the standard rate agreed by the county.
Details of any travel costs incurred and paid out must be forwarded by Section Officers to the County Treasurer, usually on the form used for match statements, within 48 hours please.
This policy paper will be reviewed in March each year, to determine the rates for the forthcoming season.
