We are very sorry to have to announce the passing of of Henry Franklin on Saturday evening the 4th and Colin Pearce in the early hours of Monday morning the 6th of January.
Henry was an absolute legend at the Watlington club and undoubtable did more than anyone else to make the club what it is today. It is truly a very sad day for the Watlington BC.
In addition to his being one of the known bowlers in Oxfordshire, Henry was well known throughout the bowling world, both on the outdoor and indoor scene.
He was President of Oxfordshire in 1982 and Chairman of the Home Counties BA in 1988. In 2015, in recognition of his contribution to the game he loved, he was awarded the Certificate of Merit from Bowls England.
Others, more knowledgeable than myself will be able to give a more thorough insight into his contribution to the indoor game.
Our thoughts are with his wife Joyce at these difficult times.
Funeral arrangements:
Oxford Crematorium, Bayswater Road, Headington  OX3 9RZ on Thursday 23rd January at 12 noon. Afterwards at Oxford & District Indoor Bowls Club, Sandy Lane West, OX4 6NA.
No flowers please but donations to Henry’s favourite charities will be welcome on the day.
Colin was a former member of Wychwood Bowls Club and Chipping Norton Indoor bowls club and a regular participant with the midweek county teams until eyesight problems brought an end to his bowling. He was also a very good supporter of the Chipping Norton indoor bowls club.
Along with his wife Barbara, a regular with the ladies county side, they made a formidable couple to bowl against.
It was good to see them both supporting the Wychwood Clubs' 90th anniversary celebratory game against the OBA & BOL President’s team at the beginning of last August.
Our thoughts go to Barbara at this difficult time.
