Alan Scholan pays tribute to Fred Dawson, as follows:
With great regret I have to inform you of the death of Fred Dawson on 4th July after a long struggle against illness.
Fred joined Witney Town in the mid 1980s and played there for the next 30 years. He became central to the competitive side of the club, winning most of the club competitions; the first one in 1987, the last one in 2012. He was Club Captain on 3 occasions during his career.
At county level he played successfully in open events in several venues, and county records show that he represented Oxfordshire a total of 39 times. In summary, Fred had an amazingly fulfilling and lengthy career that will have touched so many in our bowling community down the years; he will be sorely missed.
Fred’s funeral will be held at the North Oxford Crematorium at Tackley on Thursday 18th July at 1pm. It will be followed by a wake at the George and Dragon in Hanborough. All are welcome there, to remember Fred.
