Please see below the very sad news received from OBA Past President Ian Whelpton late last night (31 January).
Janet passed away this morning peacefully.
She was known not only by bowlers in Oxfordshire, both men and women, but also bowlers from many other counties, from Cumbria down to Cornwall.
In the early 2000’s when the Middleton Cup was played at Banbury Central, she was renowned for the after-match 3 course meals she provided, both by the Oxfordshire players and many from visiting counties.
Happy memories for us both and I am sure many others.
Chris Weller summarises the thoughts of all county bowlers by saying: she was a charming lady, and always in attendance at any game or occasion that Ian was involved in, whether at County level, or the Vice-President's games.
Jan was a true supporter of the County Bowlers and for many years enjoyed watching our Middleton Cup team perform. Our condolances are offered to Ian for his great loss and for all other family members and close friends.
Here are the arrangements for Janet’s funeral.
The funeral of Janet Whelpton will take place on Monday March 4th at 2.00p.m., at the North Oxfordshire Crematorium, Tackley, OX5 3ER,
followed by a Wake at the Kidlington Bowls Club, Exeter Close, Oxford Road, OX5 1AB.
All are welcome to both.
We will be celebrating Janet’s life and request no black clothing please, be as colourful as you wish.

The crematorium is approximately 3 miles north of Kidlington along the A4260
Regards
Ian
