Oxfordshire played Middlesex in the Balcomb Trophy at Headington Bowls Club on Sunday morning. On a rather damp green and with intermittant rain showers the two Oxon Rinks got off to an excellent start and were 9-4 up after four ends.
The rink of Sam Watts, Shane Cooper, Jason King and skip Mark Charlett then when behind 16-6 after 12 ends, then some outstanding bowling by all rink members enabled them to take control of the match with scores of a 2,3,1,2,2,2 on the remaining ends with no reply from the Middlesex rink, resulted in a win for Mark  18-16.
On the other rink of Keith Holloway, Paul Comley, AJ Docherty and skip Nick Rae-Welsh got away to an even start and at end 10 Nick was in the lead 9-8. With Nick moving the jack length around and his rink members in or around the jack at most ends moved the score onto 17-13 after 17 ends. From then on with the Middlesex skip playing some VERY HEAVY bowls which proved to be a futile excercise with Keith, Paul, AJ and Nick's constant pressure made the final score 23-13.
Final score for Oxfordshire an excellent win 41-29 which moves us to the Regional  Finals at Bromley on the 28th July. Huge thanks to Headington Bowls Club as usual  for the Green, plentiful supply of Bacon and Sausage Baps and fluid refreshment.
